5th Annual Charlotte MultiCultural Choral Festival
Each year four high school programs are invited to bring their top ensemble to join the UNC Charlotte Chorale for a two-day clinic with Rodney Eichenberger (and another nationally-renown guest clinician) to explore choral music that reflects the depth and diversity of UNC Charlotte’s place as the urban research university of the Carolinas.
Only those high school programs who participated in the sight-reading component of the state choral contest are invited. One high school will be invited from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system, one from the surrounding area, one from elsewhere in the region, and one rural or developing program.
There is no cost to participate.
The first morning, each high school choir will have a brief 20-minute clinic with Prof. Eichenberger, using their own music they have prepared. Meanwhile, the remaining choirs and the collegiate choir will be rehearsing with the other nationally-renown guest clinician (a different person each year) the five to six combined pieces, selected by the clinicians, for a joint performance at the end. In the afternoon, Prof. Eichenberger will work with the combined choirs.
The second morning, the High School directors and the advanced undergraduate collegians will have a conducting seminar with Prof. Eichenberger, with the University Chorale serving as the lab chorus (Continuing Ed credit is offered), while the guest clinician works with the combined ensembles. Following this, and again in the early afternoon, the clinicians will continue working with the combined choirs.
In the late afternoon, a culminating concert will be held. Each high school choir will present two selections, followed by the combined choirs conducted by Prof. Eichenberger and the guest clinician. The concert will conclude with a piece of sight-reading, selected by Prof. Eichenberger.
