University Chorale to Tour NC
Continuing a long tradition, the University Chorale will tour the state of North Carolina Wednesday, October 26th – Saturday, October 29th, 2016. The focus of the tour will include many high schools and public performances in the Cary, Raleigh, Wilmington and Fayetteville areas.
Past tours of the Chorale include multiple trips to the Raleigh-Durham area, the Greensboro and Winston-Salem area, as well as the Richmond-Williamsburg, VA corridor. International tours also have included Spain and Italy.
The purpose of this tour is fourfold:
• To aid in the recruitment and retention of students to UNC-Charlotte.
• To aid in the recruitment and retention of students to the Music Department of UNC-Charlotte.
• To provide current UNCC students with an opportunity for the enrichment that may only come through travel. This enrichment may be derived in part from the observation of, and participation in, other programs, traditions, and/or cultures not offered by only on-campus activities.
• To provide service for the students, educators, and community members encountered at each stop on the tour. This service may include the choir serving as a teaching aid for the resident directors, a recruitment tool for struggling school music programs, an educational program for elementary school students, or simply as entertainment for shut-ins at nursing homes.
Choir tours by undergraduate ensembles are a usual and expected component of the vital and growing music programs of most universities. Moreover, when pursued in conjunction with the Admissions staff, they serve as excellent recruitment tools for both the universities and their music programs.
